Storage & Handling

PLA absorbs moisture slowly but will degrade print quality if stored incorrectly. Store in a sealed container below 25°C with fresh desiccant. If your PLA crackles or produces rough surfaces, dry at 45–50°C for 4–6 hours.

All Leviathan 3D PLA ships vacuum-sealed to guarantee it arrives ready to print. Reseal after each use to maximise shelf life.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What temperature should I print Leviathan 3D PLA at?

Leviathan 3D PLA prints best at a nozzle temperature of 180–220°C. We recommend starting at 200°C for most printers. Bed temperature can be 20–60°C - PLA does not require a heated bed, though a bed temperature of 50°C improves first-layer adhesion. Always check your specific printer's recommended PLA profile as starting point and adjust from there.

Does Leviathan 3D PLA need a heated bed?

No - PLA can print without a heated bed, making it ideal for printers with unheated build surfaces. However, a heated bed at 50–60°C significantly improves first-layer adhesion and reduces warping. For best results on glass or PEI surfaces, 50°C is the sweet spot. Blue painter's tape works well on unheated beds.

Is PLA suitable for outdoor use?

PLA has a glass transition temperature of approximately 60°C, which means it can soften in direct sunlight or hot environments (such as inside a car on a warm day). For outdoor applications or heat-exposed parts, we recommend PETG or ASA instead. PLA is best suited for indoor display models, prototypes, cosplay props, and functional everyday parts kept out of direct heat.

Can PLA be sanded, painted, or post-processed?

Yes - PLA is one of the easiest materials to post-process. It sands cleanly with wet/dry sandpaper (start at 200 grit, finish at 1000+), accepts acrylic and spray paints without a primer in most cases, and can be glued with CA (super) glue or epoxy. PLA can also be smoothed with XTC-3D epoxy coating for a polished surface finish. It is not suitable for acetone smoothing (that's ABS).

Is Leviathan 3D PLA compatible with the Bambu Labs AMS?

Yes. Leviathan 3D PLA is fully compatible with all versions of the Bambu Labs AMS - including the AMS, AMS Lite, and AMS 2 Pro. Our ±0.03mm diameter tolerance is within Bambu's recommended spec for reliable automated multi-material feeding. Use the PLA or PLA Basic profile in Bambu Studio or OrcaSlicer and select your colour variant.
